VAMCOSA shares valuable information to grade 10, 11 and matric mechanical learners at Fumana Comprehensive School on 23 June 2015.
As the “Fumana Project” gains momentum to guide and mentor high school learners into critical skills for the VAMCOSA cluster it is always important to share some interesting information with the learners. This was achieved with our partner D3 (www.discoveryourcareer.co.za) who spent the morning sharing and guiding learners with the following:
Top 5 career paths required by VAMCOSA: Fitter and turner, Tool, Jig and Die Maker Patternmaker Boiler maker Technical sales staff Where can you study and ideas on research for a career that best suites you Setting goals The importance of your own bank account and encouraging the learners to open one now while still in school Importance of academic results Useful tips to put them ahead in the search for employment “It was clear from the feedback of the learners that this session was well received and that they are all very interested to have similar engagements on a regular basis. Each learner has taken away information which will mould them in their future career choices. The learners also indicated to us what other areas they need guidance and information” says Lara Slogrove from D3.
Matric learners now realise possibilities of applying for bursaries and wish to have more information on this subject. The Grade 10 and 11 learners realise the possibilities of many careers, and are excited to do research to find out more.
D3 will engage with the learners again in term 4 to follow up with their research progress and provide more useful tips and information.
