What an exciting few days spent in August and September as Technical High School learners from Fumana Comprehensive, Rhodesfield Technical High School, Hans Moore Technical High and Springs Technical High all enjoyed visits at various manufacturing companies in The East Rand of Gauteng.
Over 250 learners were enthralled with very informative walks around the factories to see what the “Day in the Life” of an artisan is like. By doing this learners’ get excited about seeing what possibilities are available for them after matric. It also encourages them to excel at their academics to ensure they can have a career after matric.
A grade 10 learner comments “Thank you so much for taking us there, it was a great experience and now I officially know the kind of workplace I’m expecting, Thanks for making me realise that it is time to work hard, I am very inspired.”
The HOD from Rhodesfield is so happy to be a part of this visits. “We met an employee who has grown through the company from their scholarship programme and is now fully employed and excelling in the workplace. It is very motivating for all of us” says Sesh Mbila
We thank all the SACEEC members for opening their doors to these learners. Our members are very passionate about their businesses and encourage the youth to study hard and reiterate that all jobs are vital in the manufacturing sector to ensure success.
Companies look forward to “Localisation” work from SOC to enable them to employ more youth to develop the next generation of artisans.
